( 1Jo 2:20,27;
R.V., "anointing")
Kings, prophets, and priests were anointed, in token of receiving divine grace. All True believers are Christ-ians, in a secondary sense, what Christ was in a primary sense, "the Lord's anointed." ¶

Mat
11:12
- And from the days of John - That is,
from the time that John had fulfilled his ministry,
men rush into my kingdom with a violence
like that of those who are taking a city by storm.
That is the
simplest explanation.
Most commentators though argue whether the verbs are passive
or middle voice (meaning past tense or ongoing past tense);
others relate it to false believers.
The basis of the whole
passage however is Jesus identifying
John
the Baptist as the forerunner of the messiah from prophecy,
and describing the degree
of desire the gospel message brought to people.
As a metaphor it is
saying that when we hear the gospel we want it so badly
that we rush to it in a
manner similar to the siege of a city [971]
- we press in on it
and taken it or pluck it [726] forcefully
or better translation
might be "energetically".
