	"I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you." Meanings of the Greek word used for "Comforter". (Strong's) Lexicon Greek 3875 parakletos par-ak'-lay-tos a root word; TDNT - 5:800,782; n m AV - Comforter 4, Advocate 1; 5 1) summoned, called to one's side, esp. called to one's aid  1a) one who pleads another's cause before a judge, a pleader, counsel for defense, legal assistant, an Advocate 1b) one who pleads another's cause with one, an intercessor  1c) in the widest sense, a helper, succourer, aider, assistant I like the meaning given by one man (close to #1a above): The word Comforter means: ONE CALLED ALONG SIDE TO HELP Jesus said that He would send us this one to come along side us to help us. He did it. In case of Daniel 10, Gabriel was sent, with answer to prayer, was hindered 21 days so he in turn asked Michael to help. II Chronicles 7:14 If my people, who are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Acts 9:11 And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth,  12 And hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. The Comforter has come along side us to help. It is needful to understand that there are two spirits we are dealing with in these lessons: (1) The spirit of Christ that is in us, so when God is for us, who can be agaist us? even Michael does not contend with satan, over the body of Moses, only used God given authority and spoke the Word: Lord rebuke thee satan. And you know Jesus is Christ and Lord, was given all power, and He gave us the power of attorney according to Gospel of Mat 28:18-20 to Go ye therefore, and teach all nations,... and asked us  "keep my Word." That's a very trusting relationship, but He is our help, and He is able to keep us from falling... AWSOME! What are we waiting for? We are His and  The spirit of Christ that is in us, replaced the fallen spirit we once had. (Gal 2:20, 2 Cor 5:17, Acts 17:28) (2.) The Holy Spirit, that is the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Truth, that which is called the "enduement of power from on high". (2.) The Holy Spirit, that is the Spirit of God, the Spirit of Truth, that which is called the "enduement of power from on high". (John 14:16-17, Acts 2, 1 Cor 12) As the born again children of God, we are partakers of the Spirit of Christ. The Holy Spirit is that which is called along side to help us to develop and grow spiritually (the Comforter). It is evident from scripture that the baptism in the Holy Spirit is a separate and subsequent action to the new birth. It is a simple procedure to receive the baptism of the Holy Spirit. Know that Jesus said that He would send the comforter to you. (John 14:16-17) Know that Jesus said that the Father would give you the Holy Spirit if you asked. (Luke 11:9-13) Once you ask, believe that you receive. Jesus and God did not lie. They want you to have this gift. They intend for you to have it. If you have asked, then believe They have done what They said they would do. Therefore: Raise your hands and begin to thank Him for giving you the Holy Spirit. You asked, He gave... just as He said. If something happens in way of some manifestation, that is good. But if nothing appears to happen, it makes no difference. You have still received the Holy Spirit. The lack of an apparent manifestation does not mean He lied. We walk by faith not by sight. Simply continue to praise and thank God that you have received. You have received the Holy Spirit by faith. (Gal 2:2-5) This is the PROPHETIC SCHOOL course on How to Prophesy We have seen that when we were born again, the old academic spirit we had when we were born was removed and was replaced by a new creature. This new spirit that was born into us is the Spirit of Christ. (Gal 2:20, 2 Cor 5:17, Rom 6:4) We have seen that the spirit of Christ can speak. (2 Cor 13:3) 2 Cor 13:3 Since ye seek a proof of Christ speaking in me, which to you-ward is not weak, but is mighty in you. The level of speech is determined by the spiritual maturity of the individual. As a babe in Christ, a person will put forth baby talk. In Paul, who was spiritually mature, the level of speech was highly developed to the point that it was working mightily inside the hearer of his speech. When he spoke forth from the spirit of Christ in him, the words would go out into the hearer. The words, being the words of Christ, were spirit and life to those who heard them. THIS IS THE POWER AND INTENT OF PROPHECY! We want to develop your ability to prophesy to the point where your words are spirit and life, and where they will be "mighty" in the hearer! You have the same spirit of Christ as Paul did, and that spirit of Christ desires to speak through you. Look at this: Gal 4:6 And because ye are sons, God hath sent forth the Spirit of his Son into your hearts, crying, Abba, Father. This is the spirit of Christ that was born into you when you were born again. Notice it is speaking! More than that, it is: hands up, crying! Abba is Daddy, and crying is PICK ME UP. As a spiritual man, you will walk before you run, and crawl before you walk. The first vital step we will take in our learning to prophesy, is to locate this voice that is in us! Once located, we will work from it, develop it, and mature it to the place that we will prophesy forth words of comfort, edification, and exhortation into those who hear our words! And WHO can hear our words? Faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God. Jesus said: my sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me: and I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. This is where the "one called along side to help" comes in. He is the spirit of Truth who is sent to help us develop. Without him we are orphans in the world. Babes without a teacher. Compare the above verse with a parallel passage in Romans 8. Romans 8:15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father. 16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: Here we see the Holy Spirit working, bearing witness with us. This "witness" is what we are looking for. It is elsewhere translated "testimony". In this case, the testimony is "Abba". Your spirit is saying that you are a child of God. Like a baby repeating the words of his parent, your babe spirit repeats the same "Abba". It is the heart cry of a "baby" spirit to it's Father. Many of you will have already located this crying of Abba! It is there. The word says it is! The word does not lie. In the last lesson we asked to receive the Holy Spirit. We believe we have received! If you had a manifestation, return to that "place" in yourself and repeat what you did then. If you did not manifest anything, then follow these instructions:

I want to get into a truth that I discovered a number of years ago. For a long time I thought and taught (as many do) that the Holy Spirit speaks in tongues, and that the "initial evidence" of the baptism in the Holy Spirit is speaking in tongues. As I have grown older and had my teaching corrected by the Lord, I have had to change this.

(1.) The initial evidence of receiving the Holy Spirit is the faith that you have received. Jesus said He would give you the Holy Spirit if you asked, and He did not lie. I do not care if you _never_ speak in tongues, Jesus did not lie. You asked, He gave Period! NOW FAITH IS SUBSTANCE of things HOPED for the (initial _and_ final!) EVIDENCE of things not seen.(Heb 11:1) We receive the Holy Spirit by faith (Gal 2:1-6), and the substance is rendered in PERSON of Jesus Christ Himself:
Heb 1:3 

(2.) We believe that we have received the Holy Spirit. It is His purpose to come along side us to help us. But the fact is, the Holy Spirit does not speak in tongues! Read 1 Cor 14:14 

"..if I pray with an unknown tongue, MY SPIRIT PRAYS... MY SPIRIT PRAYS If you are going to speak or pray in tongues, it is going to be you that does it. The Holy Spirit will come along side to help. He will give you "utterance", or words to say. So if we believe that we have received the Holy Spirit, then it is the utterance that is the initial physical manifestation that we receive... not the speaking.

ALL have the utterance (all who have asked!) but think erroneously that the Holy Spirit is going to take over their mouths and tongues and force them to speak. This is not scriptural. He gives you utterance. YOU speak. The Holy Spirit helps your infirmities by giving you slight physical manifestations to help you. He will not do it for you.

Romans 8:26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. Here Paul is talking about intercession. But the general principle is the same. In this case, a "groaning" (a discernable physical manifestation) that cannot be uttered is given.

If you have ever interceded in this manner, you will know that this physical manifestation is said to resemble "labor pains". You may have seen people praying very intensely, bowed over, and even holding their lower body. This is a physical manifestation given by the Holy Spirit designed to help our infirmities.

As a babe desiring to speak in tongues, He will also come along side to help your obvious "infirmities". Look at this verse Isaiah 28:11 "For with stammering lips and another tongue will he speak to this people" Two things: stammering lips-the Hebrew word means a mocker, or imitator. The concept is that the speaker appears to be mocking a foreigner. The speaking is so "odd", that it is obvious to the hearer that the speaker does not know the language he is speaking, and so the hearer assumes the speaker is mocking a foreigner. In the middle seventies, many Viet-Nam "boat people" were coming to the U.S. They would speak very rapidly in a strange language with unusual soundings and pronunciations. American children would "mock" or "imitate" these speech patterns.

The manifestation of speaking in tongues is going to resemble these children. You will likely repeat certain sounds and patterns over and over. Often the babe will do this very rapidly and with an apparent excess of tongue movement. (As you mature in your speech, this will change. The speaking will begin to resemble a real language, and become slower. Very often it will include gestures and facial expressions. Eventually, you will appear to be speaking in a language that you actually know.)

Close your eyes and begin to say Abba. This is a word that the scripture says is already in you. It is there! Repeat it over and over in faith. Speak forth from your love for God and Jesus. Reach down into your "belly" where the living waters flow and speak the love for the father word "Abba".

While you are doing this, be aware of any sensations or movement of your lips or tongue. Here are some physical manifestations that may come: There is a rapid tapping of the tongue against the top of the mouth associated with a hard "t"(as in tall), dull "d" (as in double), soft "n" (as in Nabel), "l" (as in lad). There is a "numbness" of the lips that together with the blowing of air out the mouth is associated with a "b"(as in butter) or "p" (as in Paul) sound. Sometimes there will be a slight constricting of the throat, associated with the "k"(as in Cud, or more guttural as in "q" in quote) or "g" (as in go) sounds. There may be a blowing of air over the tongue that has an "s" (as in say) sound. There is a sound produced by the pushing of air through the mouth with the top lips pressing on the bottom teeth, or the "f" ( as in first) sound or "v"(as in vote). The is the rubbing of teeth together to produce a "r" (as in rough). A mmm sound "m" (as in make). In these cases and in others, the sensation will be there, but _you_ have to provide the breath through the mouth. If you feel a sensation as indicated above, simply blow your breath through the sensation to produce the indicated sound. You will likely repeat this single sound over and over, as if you were stammering it.

Sometimes it will happen that as you are praying in English, that a strange sound or word will come out that you had not planned to say. Sometimes you will be praying in English and it will seem that unusual words in another language will come into your mind. Sometimes it will occur that if you have ever heard a person pray in tongues, you will recall what they were saying and feel as if you are to say the same words. One important point you have to remember is that the Holy Spirit does not speak in tongues: _you_ speak. As you have faith, he will help your infirmities with some manifestation. YOU have to take the step of faith and proceed.

IT MAY SEEM FOOLISH WHILE YOU ARE DOING IT. In fact it should! You are a baby learning how to talk. How did you expect it to sound? This is the PROPHETIC SCHOOL course How To Prophesy. When I asked the Lord to baptize me with the Holy Spirit 25 years ago, something happened that bothered me far a long time. I did not receive utterance to speak in tongues: I immediately began to prophesy! The Lord began to speak to me in my mind and I knew I was supposed to say the words. I remember the first words that were said: "I have loved you with a great love..." It was actually years before I read in Acts 19:6.

Acts 19:6 And when Paul had laid [his] hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

So you see, it is evident that people can and do prophesy at the same time or even before they speak in tongues. I am including this short lesson so that in the event you also feel  led to prophesy instead of speaking in tongues, you will know that this is a scriptural manifestation. As with intercession and tongues, the Holy Spirit is there to help your infirmities. In prophesy, the help often takes place in the form of words or phrases which come into your mind. These words will seem to just stay there and will even build up steam until you feel you just have to let them out! Do it! You may feel as we all do when we have something very important to say during a conversation, and just cannot wait to get it out! (this is why Paul tells the prophets and prophesiers to speak one by one, and not all at once... it is very hard to hold it in!

(1 Cor 14:29-31, see also Job 32:18-20 and Amos 3:8) Paul said "I will pray with the spirit, and I will pray with the understanding also". He is talking about the interpretation of tongues and prophesy here. Thoughts that come into you mind is a form of "utterance" for prophesy. Each gift has a form of utterance, which is the Holy Spirit helping your infirmity. People with the gifts of healings will sometimes have a warm or oily sensation in their hands.

People with the ministry Gift of the Prophet will sometimes say it feels as if they have a "mantle" or robe on their shoulders. People with miracles and gift of faith may feel they grow in statue a foot, or that someone BIG stands up inside them, and they feel like superman! These are all forms of spiritual utterance that come as the Holy Spirit is helping our infirmities.They are leadings and manifestations to help you. But in every case, it is you that does the work. You speak. You lay hands on the sick. He is going to help you, but you have to act. You have to respond in faith.

EXERCISE: Practice the presence of God. The next time you feel the presence of the Spirit, instead of getting caught up in it, allow yourself to search for evidence of spiritual utterance. What is He doing in you? What kind "utterance" is he giving you? Is it a vocal utterance, such as the Gift of Prophecy or tongues? Is it a physical manifestation in your hands, shoulders, feet? It a visual manifestation. (I see images floating up from my spirit. This is a "visual" form of utterance) Do thoughts or images come into you mind? Practice these things, all the time praising the Lord Jesus. Do not give way to any manifestation that seems to draw away from the name and blood of Jesus, or exerts pressure on you to stop using the name of Jesus. Rebuke this away in Jesus name, and continue to praise God for the true manifestation. There are spirits in this world who can and will try to deceive you! This is why Paul gave us the test in 1 Cor 12:1-3. This is not a game, and if you do not act in accordance to the instructions, you can get into trouble! Follow Jesus example: Luke 4:14-22 ¶ And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about. 15 And he taught in their synagogues, being glorified of all. 16 And he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read. 17 And there was delivered unto him the book of the prophet Esaias. And when he had opened the book, he found the place where it was written, 18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, 19 To preach the acceptable year of the Lord. 20 And he closed the book, and he gave it again to the minister, and sat down. And the eyes of all them that were in the synagogue were fastened on him.  21 And he began to say unto them,  This day is this scripture fulfilled in your ears. 22 And all bare him witness, and wondered at the gracious words which proceeded out of his mouth.  And they said, Is not this Joseph's son?

Jesus is to believers the one pearl of great price as for me, to live is Christ Philippians 1:21     The believer did not always live to Christ. He began to do so when God the Holy Spirit convinced him of sin, and when by grace he was brought to see the dying Saviour making a propitiation for his guilt. From the moment of the new and celestial birth the man begins to live to Christ. Jesus is to believers the one pearl of great price, for whom we are willing to part with all that we have. He has so completely won our heart's first love, that it beats alone for Him; to His glory we would live, and in defence of His gospel we would die; He is the pattern of our life, and the model after which we would sculpture our character.     Paul's words mean more than most men think; they imply that the aim and end of his life was Christ-nay, his life itself was Jesus. In the words of an ancient saint, he did eat, and drink, and sleep eternal life. Jesus was his very breath, the soul of his soul, the heart of his heart, the life of his life. Can you say, as a professing Christian, that you live up to this idea? Can you honestly say that for you to live is Christ? Your business-are you doing it for Christ? Is it not done for self-aggrandizement and for family advantage? Do you ask, "Is that a mean reason?" For the Christian it is. He professes to live for Christ; how can he live for another object without committing a spiritual adultery? Many there are who carry out this principle in some measure; but who is there that dare say that he hath lived wholly for Christ as the apostle did? Yet, this alone is the true life of a Christian-its source, its sustenance, its fashion, its end, all gathered up in one word-Christ Jesus. Lord, accept me; I here present myself, praying to live only in Thee and to Thee. Let me be as the bullock which stands between the plough and the altar, to work or to be sacrificed; and let my motto be:  "Ready for either."
